out of reach

The cost of quality mental/emotional (behavioral) health services is one of the largest barriers for families seeking this type of care for their kids and/or themselves. For those with insurance, many of the best and most specialized mental health clinicians are out-of-network (versus in-network). This is often because insurance companies are not willing to pay a fair rate. Insurance out-of-network share of the cost is insufficient compared to clinician fees, creating a costly gap between what is covered by insurance and what is to be afforded by a family in pursuit of quality, thus effective, thus life improving care.

Other barriers to quality care include: stigmatization, geographical location, lack of education, shortage of professionals (including specialized professionals) and lack of availability of professionals.

define quality

Ultimately, quality care can be described as effective care and measured by several outcomes and defined by many key factors. A clinician's ability to provide a level of care built on these key factors increases the likelihood of achieving favorable outcomes. Some factors of quality care are:

Safe

Specialized

Timely

Dependable

Patient-centered

Efficient

One the of the many issues with in-network mental health care is providers asserting the ability to treat conditions (or use methods) with limited to no experience and/or favorable outcomes in doing so. Effective care is commonly specialized.

special needs education

Children with special needs (non-neurotypical) often have social-emotional developmental challenges and mental health conditions like anxiety that require mental (behavioral) health services. Special needs schools often integrate services like occupational and speech therapy, social skills  and counseling into the school day with individualized curriculum.  Gap Grants for special needs education are meant to assist families with the cost of private, special needs education. The average cost of tuition (pre financial aid) ranges from $20-$40k.

Special Needs Education - K-5: $3000

For families seeking quality, private special needs education for their child at an established, reputable school with specialized, integrated developmental services and favorable outcomes.
